सविता ओलंपिक क्वालिफायर और उसके बाद प्रो लीग मैचों में भारत की कप्तान रही थीं। सलीमा ने हॉकी इंडिया द्वारा जारी विज्ञप्ति में कहा- मुझे खुशी है कि टीम की कप्तानी दी गई है।

भारतीय महिला हॉकी टीम में बड़ा बदलाव हुआ है। मिडफील्डर सलीमा टेटे को अनुभवी गोलकीपर सविता पूनिया की जगह इस महीने के आखिर में होने वाले एफआईएच प्रो लीग के बेल्जियम और इंग्लैंड चरण के लिए भारत की 24 सदस्यीय महिला हॉकी टीम का कप्तान चुना गया है। वहीं, नवनीत कौर को उपकप्तान बनाया गया है।
