A 40-year-old woman working as a maid was killed by his sister’s son-in-law in Tiruvottiyur on Wednesday.
The police said M. Kalimuthu was married to Tamilselvi of Tiruvottiyur a year ago. Due to personal issues, Tamilselvi left Kalimuthu and moved to her mother’s home in Vasantham Nagar.
On Wednesday, Kalimuthu came to the city around 6 a.m. to attend to some personal work and went to visit Tamilselvi.
As he waited outside her house, Dhanalakshmi, Tamilselvi’s aunt, abused him saying Tamilselvi was not willing to live with him.
A verbal argument broke out between them, during which Kalimuthu took out a knife and grievously assaulted Dhanalakshmi. She died on the spot even as Kalimuthu fled from the scene.
On being informed about the crime, the Tiruvottiyur police sent the body to Government Stanley hospital for a post-mortem.
