A temporary woman employee of Kolkata Raj Bhawan since 2019 has alleged governor CV Ananda Bose ‘sexually assaulted her twice’. The woman filed a complaint at the Hare Street Police Station on Thursday, hours before Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived at Raj Bhawan as state guest. Bose dismissed the allegation and said that he would not be “cowed down by engineered narratives”.

The governor of a state is immune from civil and criminal proceedings against him/her, as per the Constitution.

The woman alleged that she was ‘promised she would be made a permanent employee’, according to a person who has seen the complaint.

Responding to the allegation, the governor in a statement said, “Truth shall triumph. I refuse to be cowed down by engineered narratives. If anybody wants some election benefits by maligning me, God bless them! But they cannot stop my fight against corruption and violence in Bengal.”

Later in the night, Bose banned finance minister Chandrima Bhattacharya from entering Raj Bhavan. A statement from Raj Bhawan said the governor “has also instructed his office that he will not participate in any function attended by the minister. The attorney general has been contacted for advice on further legal steps against the minister”.
