KPCC president and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar reiterated his support to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah at the Jana Kalyana Samavesha at Hassan and said: “I have already stated that I stand by Mr. Siddaramaiah like the rocks of Kanakapura. I will repeat the same today, tomorrow, and until my death.”

As Mr. Shivakumar took the name of Mr. Siddaramaiah in his speech, the crowd responded with cheers, which continued even after he signalled to them to calm down. Then he said: “Don’t worry. I stand by Mr. Siddaramaiah. I have said this already in Mysuru. I repeat the same here.”

Mr. Shivakumar’s statement gains importance in the light of the Chief Minister’s recent statement that there had been no power-sharing pact between him and Mr. Shivakumar before the Congress came to power in the State.

Further, Mr. Shivakumar, in his speech, referred to schemes including Anna Bhagya and Ksheera Bhagya implemented during Mr. Siddaramaiah’s first tenure as Chief Minister. Whenever the Congress came to power, it implemented schemes and programmes for the welfare of the poor, he said.

“M. Veerappa Moily introduced the Common Entrance Test (CET), and S.M. Krishna implemented the midday meal scheme and THE Stree Shakti programme.” Listing the schemes of the Congress governments, he wanted to know the achievements of former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda or former Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy.

Referring to the party’s victory in Hassan Lok Sabha in the last elections, the DCM thanked the people of Hassan for electing Congress after 25 years. He also exuded confidence that the Congress would win all seven seats in the next assembly polls.
