24-year-old Mumbai Indians’ rising star Vignesh Puthur, who deceived the CSK captain, is now the talk of the town. But do you know who he is and how he made it to the grand IPL stage?
The left-arm spinner Vignesh Puthur, who replaced Rohit Sharma as an impact substitute against Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2025 match no 3, showcased his brilliance in his very first over by deceiving the CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad. His impressive performance has now made him the talk of the town. But who is Vignesh Puthur? Take a look at his journey.
Hailing from Kerala’s local cricket circuit, Vignesh Puthur first grabbed attention while playing for Alleppey Ripples in the Kerala Cricket League. The 24-year-old left-arm wrist-spinner from Kerala caught the eye of Mumbai Indians’ scouts, and interestingly, in KCL 2024, he played four matches and took just two wickets at an economy rate of 11.4. Yet, he still managed to impress Mumbai Indians’ scouts.
The son of an auto driver and a homemaker, Puthur never thought his name would appear in the IPL auction box. But fate had other plans. Recognising his potential, MI secured him for his base price of INR 30 lakh at the IPL 2025 Mega Auction.
Here’s an interesting fact, Puthur also participated in the DY Patil Cup, playing for ‘Reliance 1’ and picking up two wickets at an economy rate of 9.00. He was later invited to MI nets, where he bowled to some of the franchise’s biggest names. Now, everything is falling into place for the young spinner.
