Kapil Sharma is one of the most household comics, enjoyed by both audiences and celebrities. One memorable moment on his show where the Badshah of Bollywood also known for his wit and humour pranked Kapil’s team.
In a memorable episode of
Comedy Nights With Kapil
from 2014, Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan pulled off a hilarious prank on comedians Chandan Prabhakar and Rajiv Thakur during a promotional appearance for their film ‘Happy New Year’. The episode featured SRK alongside Farah Khan and Abhishek Bachchan.
As part of the show, Chandan and Rajiv, acting as detectives, expressed their admiration for Shah Rukh and claimed to be big fans. They proceeded to mimic him, with Rajiv performing a monologue from ‘Deewana’ and Chandan jokingly stating that he had even gone to great lengths to get a face like SRK. However, the mimicry took a serious turn when Shah Rukh, pretending to be angry, confronted them about their impressions. He pointed out that while comedians often exaggerate, it doesn’t always sit well with the actors being mimicked.
The tension escalated as Shah Rukh expressed his frustration, questioning what kind of fans they were if they made fun of him on national television. He dramatically stood up and scolded them, saying they should know better than to insult someone they claim to admire.
The ‘Jawan’ actor said, “Hum log show par aate hai, khush hone ke liye aate hai. Tumko tameez nahi hai bilkul? Mistry banoge, cement daaloge muh ke andar, meri tarah lagoge tum?”, while Kapil tries to calm the superstar, SRK said, “Itna gussa aa raha hai, tumne mujhe bola tha woh line bolna hai mujhko.” (We come to the show to be happy. Don’t you have any manners at all? Will you become a craftsman, put cement inside your mouth, and look like me?)
Just when it seemed like the prank had gone too far, Shah Rukh lightened the mood by saying his famous dialogue from ‘Om Shanti Om’, “Do chutki sindoor ki kimat tum kya jano Ramesh Babu,” followed by a warm hug for both comedians. This shift revealed that the entire scenario had been a well-planned joke between Kapil Sharma and Shah Rukh Khan to tease Chandan and Rajiv.
Rajiv later recounted how he was on the verge of tears during the prank but felt immense love from Shah Rukh afterwards.
