Priyanka Chopra expressed strong disagreement with Mallika Sherawat‘s comments during a 2013 UNICEF event, stating she found them extremely upsetting. Chopra emphasised that India is a progressive nation and criticised Sherawat for misrepresenting the country on an international platform, highlighting ongoing efforts to educate girls and improve women’s status.
According to a news report in Bollywood Shaadi, Priyanka strongly disagreed with Sherawat’s assertion that India is a regressive nation for women. Chopra expressed that she found Sherawat’s comments extremely upsetting, stating that she thinks we are a progressive nation. We are all sitting here and talking about educating the girl child, taking our country forward. She thinks it’s a misrepresentation of what our great nation is on the world platform.
Calling it a misrepresentation of India on a global platform, Chopra expressed her offense at Mallika’s remarks labeling India as regressive for women. She stated that she found Sherawat’s comments callous and upsetting, emphasising that they misrepresented the nation’s progress and efforts in educating girls. She asserted, “I don’t think it’s fair,” highlighting the importance of recognising India’s advancements rather than focusing solely on its challenges.
On the work front, Priyanka has some exciting projects coming up. She will star in ‘The Bluff’, directed by Frank E. Flowers, and the action-comedy ‘Heads of State’ with John Cena and Idris Elba. She will also return as Nadia in the second season of Amazon Prime Video’s ‘Citadel’.
