Bollywood actor Neil Nitin Mukesh shared a surprising incident where he was detained at a New York airport because officials refused to believe he was Indian. Despite carrying an Indian passport, immigration officers were skeptical about his nationality.
In an interview with Mashable India, Neil recalled that the incident happened while he was working on the film New York. He mentioned that he was stopped at the airport, and the officers did not allow him to explain himself. According to him, they refused to accept that he was Indian, leading to an uncomfortable situation.
Neil said that he was held for nearly four hours before he was finally allowed to speak. During this time, officials continued to question him, making it difficult for him to clarify his identity. The situation became serious, and it even made news at the time.
Speaking about how he eventually convinced the officers, Neil revealed that when they finally asked him to say something in his defense, he simply told them to “Google” him. This response seemed to surprise and embarrass the officials.
Neil further shared that once they looked him up, their behavior changed completely. The officers, who had earlier doubted his identity, started asking him about his family and background. They inquired about his grandfather, legendary playback singer Mukesh, and his father, Nitin Mukesh, who is also a well-known playback singer in Indian cinema.
Neil Nitin Mukesh comes from a well-respected family in the Indian film and music industry. His grandfather, Mukesh, was one of the most celebrated singers in Bollywood history. His father, Nitin Mukesh, also made a name for himself as a playback singer. Despite his family’s rich artistic background, Neil chose to pursue acting and has been part of the industry for several years.
Neil was last seen in Hisaab Barabar, a satirical action-comedy directed by Ashwni Dhir. The film stars R. Madhavan, Kirti Kulhari, Rashami Desai, and Faisal Rashid in key roles. It revolves around a railway ticket checker who stumbles upon small financial irregularities, leading him to uncover a much larger corruption scandal. The movie is currently streaming on ZEE5.
