It’s Hema Malini‘s birthday today and the actress continues to remain just as graceful, beautiful, and enthusiastic as she was a few decades ago. She’s the ‘OG dream girl’ and continues to still leave everyone mesmerised with her dedication towards classical dancing and the way she performs. Not to mention, all her movies and characters have left a huge mark on the audience and remain memorable all through these years.
But Malini’s life hasn’t been all easy. She’s made some tough choices and stood by them with no regrets. For instance, Hema married Dharmendra when he already had a wife,
Prakash Kaur
and four kids.
But she never visited his house or met his first wife. She stayed alone with her daughters. The actress had spoken about it in her biography, ‘Hema Malini: Beyond the Dream Girl’, written by journalist-filmmaker Ram Kamal Mukherjee. She revealed the reason for not going to Dharmendra’s house and said, “I didn’t want to disturb anyone. I am happy with whatever Dharamji did for me and my daughters. He played the role of a father, like any father would do. I guess I am happy with that. Today I am a working woman and I have been able to maintain my dignity because I have devoted my life to art and culture.”
The actress had said how much she respects his first wife. “Though I have never spoken about Prakash, I respect her a lot. Even my daughters respect Dharamji’s family. The world wants to know about my life in detail, but that is not for others to know. It’s no one’s business,” she had said.
In a very recent interview with Lehren, the actress had also spoken about living alone and how she’s not sulking about it. “I am not feeling bad about it, or sulking about it. I am happy with myself. I have my two children, and I have brought them up very well. Of course, he (Dharmendra) was there, always. Everywhere,’ she said.
Dharmendra has four children with his first wife Prakash – Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol, Vijeta and Ajeita. Meanwhile, he has two daughters with Hema Malini – Esha Deol and Ahana.
