West Bengal Legislative Assembly’s Budget Session will begin on February 10 with Governor C V Ananda Bose’s inaugural speech, after a continuous tussle between Raj Bhawan and state government.

Last year, the state Assembly’s Budget Session, Bose was not present at the inaugural address. The West Bengal Legislative Assembly’s Budget Session will begin on February 10 with Governor C V Ananda Bose’s inaugural address, marking a return of the tradition after a one-year gap.

After Bose was appointed Governor in November 2022, in the past three years, several confrontations with the state government were witnessed.

Assembly sources said that a formal invitation had already been sent to the Governor’s office.

The West Bengal Budget will be presented on February 12 by state Finance Minister Chandrima Bhattacharya. The budget session is likely to continue until February 19.

The state government and Bose were at loggerheads for the long in 2023 over a varied issues, starting from pre and post-poll violence in Panchayat election, appointment of the new interim Vice-Chancellors of the state universities and then Bose deciding to discharge the duties of VCs in various state universities where posts of VCs were vacant, reminding the days of former Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar. Even West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee once compared Bose with Dhankhar and commented that Dhankhar was better and he did not intervene in state issues.

However, things started to change from December 2024 and almost turned cordial.
