Carlos Brathwaite can hit four consecutive sixes to win a T20 World Cup. He can also send the helmet sailing over the ropes with the bat.

The out-of-favour West Indies all-rounder recently pumped his helmet over the boundary after being dismissed during the MAX60 Caribbean T10 tournament in the Cayman Islands. A video appearing on social media from Friday has gone viral on social media where Brathwaite, in a fit of rage, smashes his helmet over the fence as trudges towards the dugout.

Batting in the Super Three contest for New York Strikers against the Grand Cayman Jaguars, Brathwaite walked into bat at No. 7. The 36-year-old was adjudged caught-behind for 7 off five deliveries after it appeared that he had nicked a short ball from Ireland seamer Joshua Little onto the keeper.

While replays suggested that the ball had brushed his shoulder, Brathwaite decided to express his displeasure with the ‘unusual straight drive.’ A member of the support staff on the sidelines is also seen scrambling sideways for cover in the video clip.

Former West Indies assistant coach even explained the dynamics behind Brathwaite’s stroke. “Carlos Braithwaite showing great power-hitting technique here as he strikes his batting helmet high over the boundary rope. He hits against a braced front leg and accelerates his hands and bat through the ball to generate power,” Radford light-heartedly wrote on X.

Brathwaite’s side, though, prevailed by eight runs over to make the final on Sunday. He could not turn his fortune around with the bat as he was dismissed for two runs. The Strikers finished runners-up behind the Caribbean Tigers after being skittled for 69 in a 126-run chase.

Brathwaite’s best moment yet on the cricket field remains his finishing act during the West Indies’ 2016 T20 World Cup win. The burly all-rounder hit the winning runs by smashing England’s Ben Stokes for four consecutive sixes when his side required 19 in the final over.

Festive offer

Brathwaite has featured in 88 international matches across formats, amassing over 1000 runs and 75 wickets. His last appearance for the West Indies, however, came back in 2019 at home against India.
