The Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International School of Textiles and Management (SVPISTM) organised a three- km walkathon on Saturday as part of Coimbatore Vizha to promote sustainable textiles and raise awareness on the environmental impact of the textile industry.
Flagged off at Race Course by Coimbatore South MLA Vanathi Srinivasan, and P. Alli Rani, Director of SVPISTM, the event saw over 300 participants, including students from various institutions, members of the public, and students with disabilities.
Ms. Srinivasan highlighted Coimbatore’s connection to textiles and the efforts of the Central government to revive the handloom industry.
A sustainable fashion contest was also conducted, featuring costumes made from upcycled materials such as garment waste, denim, plant fibres, used yarn, garbage covers, and broken CDs.
