Tamil Maanila Congress (Moopanar) president G.K. Vasan on Monday (December 2, 2024) expressed shock over the news of at least seven persons being trapped after huge boulders fell on their houses during a landslip in Tiruvannamalai, Tamil Nadu, on Sunday (December 1, 2024).
In a statement, he said it was concerning that they had not been rescued even after 24 hours, and called for the State government to take prompt action. Mr. Vasan said disaster relief teams should take appropriate action to rescue the people and also safeguard those living in the surrounding areas.
The State government should provide medical assistance and compensation to the affected people, he said.
In a separate statement, Mr. Vasan said due to Cyclone Fengal, severe damage had been caused in the delta districts and other parts of the State.
The Tamil Nadu government should immediately assess the damage and provide appropriate compensation to the affected people, including for farmers who have suffered crop damage.
