The district is all set to get 31 ‘Mudhalvar Marunthagam’ (Chief Minister’s Pharmacy), which will sell generic medicines at subsidised cost.

Chairing the review meeting held here on Thursday, Director of Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation Limited (TIDCO) and the District’s Monitoring Officer Sandeep Nanduri said the district would have 31 Chief Minister’s Pharmacies for selling the generic medicines at subsidised rate.

He said the urban poor living in unobjectionable government poramboke lands would be given patta after due survey to be done by the tahsildar and Revenue Divisional Officer concerned. Hence, the site inspections done so far for giving patta to the urban poor families were reviewed.

The minibuses to be operated via hitherto uncovered areas, progress made in the acquisition of land for the Tirunelveli west bypass, prolonged work on Ambasmudram bypass, construction of Ambasamudram government hospital, additional buildings coming up in Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital and the groyne and fish landing centre to be built at Kooduthaazhai and Koottapuli were discussed with the officials concerned who explained about the work completed so far.

Since the work on the flyover at the Kulavanigarpuram manned level-crossing, which was announced by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin during his recent visit in a bid to fulfil the long-pending demand, is yet to commence, Mr. Sandeep had discussions with the officials of Department of Highways on commencing the work at an early date.

The special initiatives of the government, including ‘Mahalir urimai thogai’, ‘Puthumai penn’, ‘Naan mudhalvan’ schemes and the action taken on the petitions received at Chief Minister’s Special Cell from the district were reviewed in the meeting.

Mr. Sandeep, who visited some of the spots, including Nellai Supermarket complex, Vannarpet, Kulavanigarpuram and KTC Nagar, where the Chief Minister’s pharmacies are to be opened, reviewed the preparations, the facilities created in the shops and the quantity of medicines to be stocked in these places.

District Revenue Officer M. Suganya, Corporation Commissioner N.O. Sukhaputra, Assistant Collector (Training) Ambica Jain, Project Director of District Rural Development Agency Saravanan, were present at the review meeting.
