Tina Ahuja
, daughter of Bollywood icon Govinda and Sunita Ahuja, recently shared her thoughts on
menstrual health
during a joint interview with her mother. The entrepreneur sparked conversations with her unconventional views, suggesting that period cramps are more common in metropolitan cities like Mumbai and Delhi and implying that they could be psychological in nature. Her remarks have ignited debates on the connection between urban lifestyles and menstrual health.
In an interview with Hautterfly, Tina stated, “I have stayed mostly in Chandigarh, and I have heard only these girls from Bombay and Delhi speak about cramps. Half of the problem comes from setting up these circles who are talking about the problem, and sometimes the ones who don’t get cramps also start to feel it psychologically. Women in Punjab and other small cities don’t even realise when they get their periods or undergo menopause. They don’t feel a thing.”
She also linked menstrual pain to lifestyle and diet choices, she said, “I have a very desi body. I don’t feel back pain and cramps. But, here I see girls always talking about feeling cramps. You eat your ghee, correct your diet, give up unnecessary dieting, sleep well, things get normal. Most of the girls suffer due to their obsession with dieting.”
Sunita Ahuja, agreed with Tina’s perspective but advised viewers to consult a doctor before making any dietary changes. She joked, “Don’t blame me later saying, ‘Govinda ki biwi Sunita ne ek chamcha ghee khaane bola aur heart mein blockage hogaya (Govinda’s wife Sunita suggested including a spoon of ghee in the diet, and it caused a heart blockage).’”
Tina also spoke about her father, Govinda’s influence on her during her teenage years, revealing how he was very particular about her fitness, “From my teens, my father was very particular about my figure and weight. He used to tell me, lose your weight, your stomach is growing out.”
Moreover, Tina made her Bollywood debut in 2015 with ‘Second Hand Husband’, starring alongside Gippy Grewal and Dharmendra, but has since stayed away from the big screen.
Govinda and Sunita, married since 1987, share a heartwarming love story marked by resilience and devotion. They have two children Tina, who briefly ventured into Bollywood, and Yashvardhan, known for his charm and low-key presence.
