Director
Sooraj Barjatya
earlier revealed that his film
Uunchai
would likely not have been made if not for the commitment of its lead actors—Amitabh Bachchan,
Anupam Kher
,
Boman Irani
, and
Danny Denzongpa
.
Talking to The First Post, Barjatya reflected on the significant role these stars played in the film’s production, especially amid the challenges posed by the pandemic.
Sooraj Barjatya recounted the difficulties of coordinating the shoot during unpredictable times, which led to multiple delays and cancellations. Despite these hurdles, he acknowledged that the film’s progress was largely due to the actors’ willingness to participate. “Had
Amitabh Bachchan
, Anupam Kher, Boman Irani, and Danny not agreed to this film, I might not have been able to complete it peacefully,” Barjatya stated.
Addressing concerns about the film’s appeal, given the cast’s age, Sooraj Barjatya emphasized that his focus was on personal fulfillment rather than external validation. He noted that unlike his previous films, which were moment-driven, Uunchai was intended to celebrate the characters themselves. “This film is different,” he explained. “I felt like I was cleansing myself by celebrating the characters and their stories.”
Starring Amitabh Bachchan, Anupam Kher, Boman Irani, and Danny in the lead, ‘Uunchai’ tells the story of three friends taking a trek to the Everest Base Camp. The movie received good reviews, and is currently in the news for winning a National Award for best Director.
