Himalayan Connect

Congress veteran Anand Sharma, who is contesting from Kangra parliamentary constituency, is surprising many within the state unit. The local leaders were skeptical whether Sharma would be able to connect with the masses as he was contesting his first Lok Sabha election. Campaigning tirelessly, Sharma is using the local dialect every time he is addressing meetings. This is quite a feat in a state where they say cuisine and dialect changes every 10 km.

Sound Over the System

While addressing a rally in Shirur, Ajit Pawar found that the mike was malfunctioning. Pawar then jokingly asked whether the local party workers had indeed paid for the sound system. The audience had a good laugh. Pawar too laughed and said that he was willing to pay the sound system provider himself if organisers failed to do so. But there should not be any more problems with the system, he added.

Pinning her Slippers

West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee had to tie asafety pin in her slippers at aJhargram rally. While addressing the crowd, she jokingly said that she walked so much during election rallies and roadshows this time that the straps of her slippers were torn apart. The blue and white slippers, popularly known as ‘hawai chappal’, have been transformed into Trinamool Congress chief’s iconic political identity in her long political journey.
