Telugu film producer Sunakara K.P. Chowdary, 44, was reportedly found dead in his rented apartment in Siolim, North Goa, on Monday.

Speaking to The Hindu, DGP of Goa Police Alok Kumar said that Chowdary allegedly hanged himself in his flat. “A note was found at the scene, but it did not mention anyone by name. Further investigation is under way,” the officer said.

In an official press release, the North Goa police stated that the Anjuna Police Station’s Siolim Outpost received information on Monday morning regarding a case of suspected suicide by hanging in Siolim, North Goa.

“Upon receiving the report, police personnel were despatched to the scene. On arrival, they discovered a man hanging from a ceiling fan. The deceased has been identified as Sunakara K.P. Chowadry, 44 years old, a resident of Gachibowli, Telangana,” said the release.

“Preliminary information suggests that Mr. Chowadry had been living alone in the flat for the past six to seven months. According to initial statements, his friends became concerned when he failed to respond to phone calls and messages this morning. They subsequently contacted the flat owner, who, upon checking, found Mr. Chowadry hanging and information was given to the police. Legal proceedings have been initiated, and the deceased’s family has been notified. The investigation is ongoing,” it added.

Chowdary had previously made headlines for his arrest in June 2023 for alleged possession of cocaine. The Special Operations Team of Madhapur and Rajendranagar police apprehended him near Kismatpur crossroads while he was allegedly attempting to sell contraband. Authorities had seized 90 sachets (82.75 gm) of cocaine and ₹2 lakh in cash from his possession.

Popularly known as K.P. Chowdary, he was a film producer and distributor. He produced the Telugu version of Rajinikanth’s Kabali (2016) and was a distributor for films like Sardar Gabbar Singh, Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu, and Kanithan.
