India has a favourable 3-2 record against Sweden in the Davis Cup, and the last time the two nations faced off in 2005.

Team Sweden has announced their squad for the upcoming Davis Cup 2024 Group I tie vs India, with the likes of Elias Ymer, Leo Borg and Andre Goransson in the team. India is slated to face Sweden on the indoor hard courts at the Royal Tennis Hall in Stockholm on September 14 and 15.

One of the star attractions for the tie would be Bjorn Borg’s son Leo, who is part of the Sweden squad. He is yet to prove himself on the big stage, and is ranked 772 in the singles, but he does have the pedigree, and his could have interesting match-ups. In fact, overall the Indian side is placed better, if only rankings are seen.

On the other hand, from India, it will be Sumit Nagal, who will lead the challenge for the visitors. Riding on a decent ranking, Nagal will be the best-placed singles player among all from both the sides, that gives him an edge. As far as the doubles competition is concerned, there would be the World No. 69 N Sriram Balaji. Yuki Bhambri has opted out from the tie. But Sasikumar Mukund wasn’t considered for the tie.

Ramkumar Ramanathan is also included in the Davis Cup team. He is ranked 324 in singles and 139 in doubles, and could end up playing both the events in the IND vs SWE Davis Cup tie.
