Indian National Lok Dal’s (
INLD
) Kurukshetra candidate Abhay Singh Chautala supported by Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) President Sukhbir Singh Badal filed his nomination papers for contesting Lok Sabha election at Kurukshetra’s deputy commissioner (DC) office on Wednesday.
Abhay was also accompanied by INLD’s Karnal candidate Maratha Virender Verma and his wife Kanta Singh Chautala, who also filed papers as his backup candidate.
After filing nomination papers, INLD and SAD top leaders addressed a large public gathering at Theme Park in Kurukshetra.
In their addresses, INLD and SAD leaders hit out at Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) top leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, on the issues of farmers and poor. They stressed out the need to strengthen the regional parties in the states by defeating the national parties ‘which take directions from Delhi’.
Badal sought votes for Abhay and promised full support to INLD across Haryana. Abhay also sought votes for himself and his party candidates at other Lok Sabha seats in the state.
Abhay Chautala
said, “BJP is taking vote in the name of Modi’s guarantee, but when questioned, it talks about making developed India by 2047 and fails to share vision for next five years. In 10 years, Modi Ji and Manohar Lal Khattar governments have failed the country and state. Narendra Modi Ji sold trains, airports, insurance and bank. All the institutions which gave income to the country are handed over to Ambani and Adani. Even they waived huge debts of Ambani and Adani.”
“Modi Ji promised with us in 2014 to implement Swaminathan report and give MSP on the crops. But the farmers are still struggling for their rightful law guaranteeing MSP. Nobody received Rs 15 lakh in their accounts as promised by Modi Ji”, said Abhay.
“Modi Ji had brought three black agriculture laws, but I congratulate the farmers of Punjab for starting a struggle. I also congratulate farmers of Haryana, who welcomed and supported Punjab farmers. The agitation turned big and farmers from other states also joined and it forced Prime Minister to change his decision after 13 months. I also resigned from Haryana Vidhan Sabha in support of the farmers”, said Abhay Chautala.
Abhay targeted his opponent candidates of BJP’s Naveen Jindal and Sushil Gupta of AAP. He said, “Naveen Jindal was first forced to fund BJP through electoral bonds. Then he was arm-twisted by misusing power and made to join BJP to contest from Kurukshetra. He is same Jindal about who Modi Ji had signalled that he did coal scam.” About Gupta, Abhay said, “Sushil Gupta is stranger to people in Kurukshetra and Haryana. He has no contribution to the struggle of Haryana.”
Speaking in Punjabi language, Sukhbir Singh Badal said, “No Prime Minister should talk of one religion alone and asserted that it was unfortunate that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home minister Amit Shah were not talking about the farmers or the poor but were inciting members of one religious community to fight against the other.”
“Our country belongs to everyone, be it Hindu, Sikh, Christian or Muslim. The Prime Minister of the country represents everyone and should not take up cudgels on behalf of one religious community alone. He also should not represent two to three businessmen but instead should talk about the welfare of crores of farmers and the poor”, said Sukhbir Singh.
Badal added that “INLD and SAD are like real brothers. Both parties belong to farmers, poor and labourers. Our relation is not political but of heart. Both parties are connected to the ground and belong to our states (Punjab and Haryana). I want to tell Haryana people that their only regional party if INLD and rest all parties take directions from Delhi whether it is Sonia Gandhi, Modi Sahib or Kejriwal.”
He said BJP framed the three agricultural laws without consulting farmers or even their ally – the SAD. “This is why we chose to leave the NDA government. Bhaisahib Abhay Singh Chautala also resigned as member of the Vidhan Sabha. Both of us did this because we understand the pain of the farmer and are committed to safeguarding the interests of the
annadata
“, Badal said.
“Leaders like Chaudhary Devi Lal Ji or Sardar Parkash Singh Badal Ji or Chaudhary Charan Singh struggled for the rights of farmers and labourers, throughout their lives. The amount of MSP that we are receiving today is due to these leaders”, said Badal.
Meham MLA Balraj Kundu, senior leaders of INLD Rampal Majra, Sher Singh Badshami, SAD Haryana president Sharanjit Singh Sotha and others were also present in the event.
