Veteran singer and mimicry artist
Sudesh Bhosale
recently reflected on the massive impact of the iconic
Jumma Chumma
song from
Hum
featuring Amitabh Bachchan. Known for his exceptional mimicry of Bachchan’s voice,
Bhosale
shared how even Jaya Bachchan couldn’t believe that the song wasn’t sung by her husband.
“Some people still don’t know that I have sung the song. Even Amitabh
Bachchan
said, ‘Jaya Ji didn’t believe that the song was sung by you, not me,’” Bhosale told
ETimes
.
Bhosale reminisced about the song’s release, noting how Laxmikant of the
Laxmikant-Pyarelal
duo had predicted its success. “Six months before the song was out, Laxmikant Ji told me, ‘Jis din yeh gaana bahar aayega, dekhna tu kahan se kahan jaayega (The day this song releases, you’ll see how far you’ll go),’” Bhosale said, recalling that he had no idea the track would become so popular. “It’s been 34 years, but whenever I go up on stage, the audience cheers for ‘Chumma!’”

Reflecting on his career, Bhosale said that there are shortcuts in achieving success. “People crib about the struggles, but you have to go through all that to achieve success. You can’t go directly to college; you have to start from Kindergarten. I am doing more shows today than in the last 30 years,” he said.
Bhosale also expressed gratitude for receiving the
Maharashtra State Film Award
, calling it a special honor. “Everyone who got to know about this is saying, ‘Well-deserved!’” he added, feeling proud of his long-standing contributions to the industry.
