: Stock market indices showed positive movement on Wednesday, with Sensex and Nifty recording gains driven by strong performance in Adani group shares and positive foreign investments.
The BSE Sensex closed higher by 230.02 points at 80,234.08, after reaching a day’s high of 80,511.15. The NSE Nifty finished at 24,274.90, up by 80.40 points.
Among Sensex constituents, Adani Ports led the gains with a 6 per cent increase. Other notable performers included NTPC, HDFC Bank, Bajaj Finance, Maruti and Axis Bank.
Several stocks witnessed declines, including Titan, State Bank of India, Asian Paints, Tata Consultancy Services, HCL Tech, Sun Pharma, IndusInd Bank and ICICI Bank.
Adani Group companies experienced significant gains after a group entity clarified that Gautam Adani and associates were not charged under the US Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, though they face three other charges including securities and wire fraud, which carry monetary penalties.
Multiple Adani Group companies reached their upper circuit limits during trading.
