In what is dubbed as a record sale, liquor worth ₹408.58 crore was sold across the State on Saturday, in the run-up to the New Year’s eve.
Despite being a fourth Saturday, depots were kept open and credit facility was given to licence holders by the Karnataka State Beverages Corporation Ltd. (KSBCL). The depots remained open on the request of the Federation of Wine Merchants’ Association, Karnataka.
According to a press release issued by the association, the State saw sales of 6.22 lakh boxes of Indian Made Liquor (IML) worth ₹327.50 crore and 4.04 lakh boxes of beer worth ₹88.58 crore. In total, 10.27 lakh boxes worth ₹408.58 crore were sold. A total of 8,341 invoices were raised.
Sales on Friday were disrupted as a public holiday was declared to mourn the death of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
To make up for the loss, the Federation of Wine Merchants’ Association requested the KSBCL to open the depots and provide credit facility on Saturday.
“This is the first time that credit facility was provided on a holiday,” the association said.
B. Govindaraj Hegde, general secretary of the association, thanked KSBCL and the Karnataka Excise Department for keeping the depots open on Saturday.
