On his IPL 2025 debut for Lucknow Super Giants, captain Rishabh Pant recorded a six-ball duck against his former team, Delhi Capitals at the ACA-VDCA Stadium in Vizag on Monday.

Pant holed out to long-off with a miscued hit against his India teammate Kuldeep Yadav’s bowling in the 14th over of LSG’s innings. The 27-year-old was signed up by Lucknow for a staggering Rs 27 crore at the IPL Mega Auction in November in Jeddah. The staggering bid had made him the most expensive player signing in IPL history.

Pant made his IPL debut with the Capitals in 2016 and had amassed over 3200 runs in 112 appearances for the franchise before parting ways.

Delhi Capitals co-owner Parth Jindal had spoken last year about why the franchise did not retain Rishabh Pant, who ended up at Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL 2025.

Jindal said that the star wicketkeeper batter was on “different wavelengths” on how to operate the team. The star joined Lucknow Super Giants in the mega auction for Rs 27 crore, becoming the most expensive player in the history of the IPL.

“It was just a different philosophy of how he wanted the franchise to operate and how us – the owners – wanted the franchise to operate. That’s what caused it (Pant’s departure). There’s nothing to do with money,” Jindal had told ESPNCricinfo. “Money’s never been an issue for Rishabh. And money’s never been an issue for us. I guess the three of us (Kiran Grandhi, Jindal and Pant) were on different wavelengths. He took a call at the end of it. We tried everything, but he decided eventually that it was time to move on.”
