Mohammed Shami’s last international outing came in the ODI World Cup Final 2023 against Australia
Mohammed Shami is desperate to make a comeback for the India Cricket Team. And the veteran pacer has sacrificed his favorite love for biriyani for over 2 months, in his bid to make a swift return and maintain a strict diet. Bengal’s fast bowling coach Shib Shankar Paul has praised and lavished huge praises for Shami, who has shown an incredible hunger to make his International return.
Mohammed Shami has been missing International cricket for over 14 months now. However, he returned to domestic cricket last year, playing a Ranji game, and quite a few SMAT matches. It was during the Bengal camp, that Paul claimed that Shami reached the ground at 6 AM in the morning, eager to hit the ground running.
Shami – Hungry for India return
“Fast bowlers take time to return from injuries. He was so hungry to return that he wanted to bowl even after finishing a game. This is a great dedication from a sportsman. Few players want to bowl for 30 to 45 more minutes after a game. He was also the first to reach the ground at 6 am, before the team reached, on match days during the domestic T20 matches,” Paul said, as per Sportsboom.com.
Shib Shankar Paul claimed that Mohammed Shami was extremely determined to bowl after finishing a game. He revealed that bowlers usually want to bowl for 30-45 minutes after a game to get into the rhythm. The bowling coach also explained that pacers take a bit more time compared to others when they return from injuries.

“He was on a strict diet. I saw him eating only one meal a day. He loves having biryani, but I haven’t seen him indulging in it in the last two months since he returned to action,” Paul concluded.
Ever since his domestic return, Shami hasn’t eaten Biriyani which is a favorite go-to meal. In fact in his bid to maintain his diet and shed some weight, he has eaten only one meal a day. In Shami’s effort to fast-track his International return, the pacer has let go of his favorite meal.
