RR set to release skipper Jos Buttler, Ashwin & Chahal ahead of IPL 2025 auction

Rajasthan Royals (RR) are all set to let go of Jos Buttler and veterans Ravichandran Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal ahead of the IPL 2025 auction. The trio have become the household name for the franchise over the years. RR are reportedly set to retain Sanju Samson, Riyan Parag, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sandeep Sharma.

Chahal was purchased for Rs 6.50 cr by RR in IPL 2022 auction and was a part of RCB previosuly. He has 205 wickets to his name from 160 matches and averages 22.45. Ravichandran Ashwin also moved from PBKS to RR over the past few years and has gone on to become a permanent in their XI. He has 180 wickets to his name from 212 matches. Jos Buttler, who was also the skipper for the side for a while, is set to released by RR. The England keeper-batter has amassed over 300 runs every season, with 863 runs in the 2022 season, averaging 57.53. In IPL 2024, he scored 359 runs which included a 107-run knock.

The reoprt states that RR are keen to use the Right To Match (RTM) card to try and lure Jos Buttler and Chahal back to the side. The Royals are expected to lose Rs 47 cr out of the Rs 120 cr from their salary pursr in retentions, the report stated. The addition of Dhruv Jurel and Sandeep Sharma in the retentions is expected to leave the franchise with Rs 55 cr.
