Mohammed Shami last played an international match for India a year ago in the ODI World Cup 2023 Finals against Australia
Not everything is well in the India Cricket Team. After India’s humiliating loss to Australia in the IND vs AUS Pink Ball Adelaide Test, reports of a rift have emerged between Rohit Sharma and Mohammed Shami. And now as things stand, there are major concerns of Mohammed Shami’s return to the National team.
Mohammed Shami is determined to make a comeback to the Indian Team, but nothing has been clarified so far. Ahead of the Border Gavaskar Trophy, Rohit Shamra told the media that the team doesn’t want to take an uncooked Shami to Australia. As a result, in his effort to build up fitness, Shami has been playing domestic cricket for Bengal.
What happened between Rohit vs Shami?
After India’s loss in Adelaide, Rohit Sharma said, “We are just monitoring him because while playing Syed Mushtaq Ali, he got some swelling in his knee, which hampers his preparation to come and play a Test match. We want to be very careful, we don’t want to bring him here, he pulls up sore or something happens.”
But this is not all. Last month when reports emerged that Shami had suffered a swelling on his knee while recovering at the NCA, he immediately took to social media to shut down the rumours. And now after the Bengaluru Test vs New Zealand, reports claim that there was a confrontation between the two senior players.
“When Shami was at NCA, he met Rohit during the 1st Test in Bengaluru. During their meeting, the two had a heated exchange over the captain’s remark on Shami when asked about his current status and availability for the New Zealand and Australia Test series,” a source told Jagran.
Will Shami play in BGT?
As things stand, Mohammed Shami has played 1 Ranji Trophy match for Bengal and then followed it up with 8 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy matches within a span of 2 weeks. All these things indicate that he is ready and raring to go and be a part of the Indian Team.
But Shami is yet to receive his clearance from NCA. Once he achieves his clearance, only then he can travel to Australia. And now as things stand, even if he travels now he won’t be a part of the IND vs AUS 3rd Test. In all likelihood, should he be 100% fit he could play the 5th Test match in Sydney. On the other hand, the earliest Shami can be a part of BGT would be the Boxing Day Test.
