Rohit Sharma is 17 years into his international career and is the fifth most capped Indian player (483 matches).

Rohit Sharma has undoubtedly been India’s best all-format batter in the last couple of years. Having him at his best, both physically and mentally, doesn’t just help but the entire Indian cricket team. He’s also the team’s senior-most player and the captain. You can only imagine the sort of weight he must have on his shoulders. Rohit knows that he can still achieve a lot more for India, and that’s why his former teammate Pragyan Ojha feels that he’s going all-in on his fitness to prolong his career.

‘Fit’ Rohit Sharma going for glory

The first thing that Rohit would look to achieve would be a hat-trick of Border-Gavaskar Trophy victories in Australia. However, for that, India must test themselves against Bangladesh and New Zealand at home. This would help them get battle-ready come November.

“I recently saw that Rohit Sharma was training hard because he knows that he wants to prolong his career; fitness is the most important thing. He’s trying to utilise this 48-day gap (between Sri Lanka ODIs and Bangladesh Tests), train himself up, and get ready for the Test swing,” Pragyan Ojha told InsideSport.

In June, Rohit guided India to the T20 World Cup trophy. Aged 37, many might have up their boots. But Rohit’s isn’t like others. As the team’s captain, he wants to bring more glory. To do that, he knows he has to fit and fire at all cylinders. At 37, he has to manage his body better. He’s not a spring chicken anymore, and the fear of getting your best batter injured was why the BCCI decided to rest him from the Duleep Trophy.

Since he wasn’t playing in the domestic first-class tournament. He decided to train under India’s new assistant coach, Abhishek Nayar, in Mumbai and seems to be hitting the gym hard. He was also spotted running laps and looked a lot leaner than he was in Sri Lanka last month.
