Right the wrong: Jasprit Bumrah should captain IND vs AUS Sydney Test, drop Rohit Sharma

India are currently 2-1 down in the Border Gavaskar Trophy with the last Test match set to be played in Sydney

It is Now or Never for the India Cricket Team to save the ongoing Border Gavaskar Trophy. As per reports, Rohit Sharma has decided to drop himself from the Playing XI. And this means, Jasprit Bumrah would be leading the side, meanwhile ace batter Shubman Gill would walk back into the side.

Desperate times call for desperate measures – and that is what is currently happening in Team India. The visitors need to win the Sydney Test to level the series and keep India’s hopes alive for the WTC Finals. Jasprit Bumrah captaining the side can be a good and bold move for the team.

Bumrah had previously captained the side in the Perth Test, the only Test which India has won so far in the series. And with India desperate for results, it looks to be the best move that the team can offer.

Rohit Sharma’s consistent non-performance

3,6,10,3,9 and one DNB is what Rohit Sharma has scored in the last 3 Test matches of the IND vs AUS Test series. The Hitman has been in incredibly poor form over the last couple of months. And playing this series in Australia hasn’t done him any good. A captain is supposed to lead from the front.

Rohit Sharma‘s poor batting form shows that he needs to put the team before him. On the contrary, Bumrah has been the standout performer. He has scalped 30 wickets in 4 Test matches and is the highest wicket-taker in the series so far, similar to how a captain should lead and perform.

Rohit Sharma’s poor Captaincy Calls

Keeping his poor batting form aside, Rohit too hasn’t been top-notch in his captaincy. He has made some blunderous decisions as the captain of the side. Arbitrarily changing the playing combination or batting order to taking poor DRS calls. All in all, it has been a total nightmare for the Indian captain.

His middle-order experiment proved to be disastrous which in turn has changed the team dynamics and has heavily impacted the Team chemistry. Should India target a win in Sydney, Rohit has to simply sit out.

Bumrah’s exceptional Perth heroics

While Yashasvi Jaiswal and Virat Kohli hogged all the limelight for the Perth victory, the silent game-winner for the team was Jasprit Bumrah. Not only did he spearhead India’s bowling attack, he also did an excellent job in captaining the side. Batting first India made a mere 150 score.

But Jasprit Bumrah stepped up and took a fifer to restrict the Aussies to an even lower score. And then KL Rahul, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, and Nitish Reddy parried hard to set an impossible run chase for the opposition. Come the last innings, it was Bumrah again with the ball. He notched up 3 wickets to secure a stunning 295-run win for the visitors. Bumrah was good with the DRS calls, being cautious yet optimistic. He studied the pitch well and a combined team performance, helped India secure a memorable win.

India desperate to Win

The dynamics are fairly simple. India needs a win at any cost. It is a two-fold situation. A win in Sydney will mean the series is a levelled draw and India gets to retain the Border Gavaskar Trophy. On the other hand, the win will also keep India alive in the hunt for the WTC Finals.

Furthermore, Bumrah coming in as the captain can act wonders in the team. It can act as a catalyst and as a breath of fresh air in a team that is hungry to perform and prove.
