Tripura vs Odisha game saw another day get washed out as not a single bowl has been bowled so far.
Day 2 is a moving day in a four-day match and that’s what we saw in the ongoing Ranji Trophy. After the premier domestic tournament kicked off yesterday (October 11), Day 2 saw major developments and all 19 (plate and elite) matches moved forward. While Mumbai have begun their title defence on a worrying note against Baroda, Himachal Pradesh hammered a mountainous 663/3 against Uttrakhand.
Shreyas Iyer records a duck for Mumbai
Mumbai looked decent when they were 140/2 after Baroda posted 290 in their first innings. However, Bhargav Bhatt turned the tide for Baroda with his three-wicket haul. One of his victims was Shreyas Iyer, who recorded an unwanted duck on his Ranji trophy return. Iyer, who is now nowhere near the Indian Test setup, desperately needs runs under his belt in order to stake his claim. However, a duck further continued his disappointing red-ball form.
Mumbai had a frustrating day as they lost eight wickets in their hunt for 290 runs. Prithvi Shaw faltered, while Ajinkya Rahane was out for 29.
Ishan Kishan fails as well
Another player who is not part of BCCI’s central contract, Ishan Kishan also failed with the bat. Captaining Jharkhand, the southpaw was out for 21 runs early in Day 2. He was looking good with three fours but was dismissed by Mukhtar Hussain, who took a five-wicket haul for Assam. Despite Kishan’s failure, Jharkhand made 361 runs, on the back of Aryaman Sen (65), Utkarsh Singh (55), and Kumar Suraj’s (55) fifties. Assam, in reply, have posted 109/4 and are still trailing by 252 runs.

Jagadeesan starts with a century for Tamil Nadu
In another high-octane contest, Tamil Nadu faced off against Saurashtra. Three-fers from Sai Kishore, Sonu Yadav and M Mohammed restricted Saurashtra to 203 runs. However, Tamil Nadu were buoyed by Jagadeesh’s sumptuous century. He stitched a 172-run stand with Sai Sudharsan, who was unfortunate to get run out at 82 runs. Ranjan Paul and Indrajith remain unbeaten at the crease for TN, who are leading by 49 runs. Incredibly, the former CSK batter has now scored 916 runs in the Ranji Trophy since the start of last season at an average of 76.33. Remarkably, 752 of these runs have come in Coimbatore alone, where he’s averaged 150.4 since the start of last season.
