Andheri Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court
found Ram Gopal Varma’s firm guilty in this case and he was sentenced to jail.
Now, on Thursday, RGV’s lawyer has requested a bail and a suspension of the sentenced. In response to that, the sessions court judge has issued a notice to the complainant and schedule a hearing for the matter next month.
For those not in the know, the director was called for a hearing in court on Tuesday, January 21. But he did not appear in court. Thus, the court accused him under Section 138 of the
Negotiable Instruments Act
. The court has also directed to give Rs 3.72 lakh to the complainant as compensation.
The director was convicted under the Section 138 of the Negotiable Instrument Act, which penalises cheque dishonour due to insufficient funds or exceeding the account’s arranged limit.
The filmmaker had said earlier that the cheques neither had his signature nor were they issued by him. But, the magistrate rejected his defence, stating that no substantial evidence was presented to support his claim.
On work front, RGV has recently announced that he’s going to make a movie soon, after years of not making any film. His film ‘Satya’ had recently re-released in theatres.
