According to Rajesh Kumar, the scene is about a nine-minute shot in which his character confronts his on-screen father while intoxicated.
Preparing himself for the shot, Rajesh Kumar confessed to having had a small amount of brandy earlier that day. Everything went fine during the rehearsal. When it was time to roll the final take, the moment turned hellish.
In the climax scene, where Manohar Singh needed to slap Rajesh Kumar, veteran actor Manohar Singh struck with such surprising force that the latter was put into shock. The silence on the whole set only enhanced the gravity of the moment.
Reflecting on the incident, Rajesh Kumar said that Manohar Singh immediately apologized and went on to explain his logic behind the act. He said that the slap was aimed at teaching him a valuable lesson in acting-that never to depend on external substances like alcohol to enact an intoxicated character.
