Rainfall alert to north coastal A.P.

North coastal Andhra Pradesh has been alerted about the possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall in the coming two days due to the active low pressure area in the Bay of Bengal.

Denkada in Vizianagaram district recorded 25.5 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours (from 8.31 a.m. on December 17 to 8.30 a.m. on December 18). PM Palem in Visakhapatnam North recorded the highest rainfall of 22.75 mm in the city. Madhurawada in the city recorded the highest rainfall of 15.5 mm till 8 pm on Wednesday.

According to the India Meteorological Department’s NCMRWF (National Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecasting) model, Visakhapatnam city is likely to receive light rainfall (2.5 mm to 15 mm) in the next 48 hours. Winds are likely to gust to 30 kmph in the city.

The low-pressure area over the southwest Bay of Bengal, has become well-marked, said S. Stella, Director, IMD Amaravati Centre. It is likely to move towards the north Tamil Nadu and south Andhra Pradesh coasts in the next 24 hours. It will then move almost northwards along the Andhra Pradesh coast in the next 24 hours (December 20), she added.

On the other hand, due to the low pressure, farmers are likely to experience tough situations as rains and strong winds are likely in the next two days, said AP Disaster Management Authority Managing Director Ronanki Kurmanath. He has advised farmers to take care of their cultivated crops or other crops.
