AICC leader Rahul Gandhi will hold a meeting with the nine newly elected MPs and the party’s defeated candidates in Bengaluru on Friday as the party analyses reasons for falling short of its target of a minimum of 15 seats. The party’s tally however has seen a big jump from just one seat in 2019 to nine seats in the current Lok Sabha.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president DK Shivakumar will be present during Gandhi’s interaction with the MPs and other defeated candidates.

Gandhi will drive to the Bharat Jodo Bhavan on Queens Road after attending a court hearing at the city civil court complex in a case of defamation filed by the BJP.

The two Congress leaders, the CM and Dy CM, have faced electoral setbacks in their own backyards of Mysuru and Bengaluru Rural, respectively, as the BJP has registered a win in both the seats. While the BJP has retained the Mysuru seat, the saffron party snatched Bengaluru Rural from the Congress, considered a stronghold of the DK brothers.

AICC president Mallikarjuna Kharge, however, has turned in a stellar show by winning all five LS seats in the Hyderabad-Karnataka region.
