Ravichandran Ashwin records and milestones: India’s premier off-spinner R Ashwin announced his international retirement after the third Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test in Australia on Wednesday, ending a successful 14-year career at the top of the mark across formats.

Here is a look at Ashwin’s prolific career in numbers: 

765 – Ashwin’s international wicket-tally is only bettered by Anil Kumble (956) among Indian bowlers. Overall, Ashwin’s tally holds 11th on the all-time list across formats.

537  – Ashwin’s Test wicket-tally is the second-highest for India, behind Kumble’s 619.

1 – Ashwin was the first bowler to reach 100 wickets in the World Test Championship, reaching the mark in March 2022.

195 – Ashwin retires as the highest wicket-taker in the World Test Championship across three editions.

37  – Ashwin’s 37 Test five-fors are only bettered by Muttiah Muralidaran (67) in Test cricket.

2 – Ashwin was the second-fastest bowler to reach 500 Test wickets, in 98 games in February 2024. He remains the quickest bowler to reach 250, 300 and 350 Test wickets.
