Shashank Singh revealed what valuable advise he got from MS Dhoni to help him get better in finishing games for PBKS in IPL
The wrong Shashank Singh turned out to be pretty much the right one for Punjab Kings as the team found a reliable and destructive finisher in IPL 2024. The PBKS star revealed how an advice from MS Dhoni – regarded as one of the best finishers in the business – had helped him hone his skills. Shashank’s phenomenal run in IPL 2024 saw the franchise retain him for Rs 5.5 crore ahead of the mega auction.
What MS Dhoni told Shashank Singh
Speaking to news agency PTI, Shashank revealed that Dhoni had told him he was among the world’s five or ten best players if he could win three out of ten games for his side. The PBKS star said that this tip had helped him gain confidence as he had realised that it was not practically possible for him to win each game.
“Once I had a conversation with Mahi Bhai (MS Dhoni) about this finisher’s thing. So he told me that if you’re winning three games for your team out of 10, you are in the world’s five or 10 best players. That gave me really confidence that it’s important to accept that every match is not possible practically for me to win. So, I just try to collect those good points, which I did. Just try to minus those stupid point or points which were not sensible,” Shashank said.

Last year, during the IPL Auction, Shashank was bagged at a base price of INR 20 lakh, mistakenly, when the team was looking for the other Shashank Singh. Later on, the confusion was cleared. He scored 354 in 14 matches for the franchise in IPL 2024, at an average of 44.25.
Earlier, Shashank had revealed that he had a soft corner for CSK and had said that he would like to move to the team if he wasn’t retained by PBKS.
“I was a die-hard CSK fan when the IPL first started,” Shashank confessed in an interview with Insidesport. “CSK was my first love in the IPL, all because of Mahi Bhai (MS Dhoni). I was heartbroken when CSK lost against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the finals of IPL 2008.”
