Pooja Bhatt
made a return to the
industry
with ‘
Bombay Begums
’ after a 21-year-long hiatus. While announcing the
comeback
through her Instagram account in 2021, the actress wrote, “Rise and slay. There is nothing stronger than a woman who has rebuilt herself. Fair to say I’m back.” It took more than two decades to be in front of the
camera
for her.
The actress calls her comeback a ‘honeymoon’.
In a chat with Instant Bollywood, Pooja said that she directed and produced movies but could not face the camera for
21 years
. But she all over again started enjoying being in front of the camera. She also felt grateful that interesting roles are being written in today’s time where all can play their age.
“This is my honeymoon phase. I quit acting for 21 years and directed and produced movies. But I have been brought back in front of the camera and I’m enjoying this phase. I’m grateful that interesting roles are being written in today’s time where you can play your age,” she said.
Jyothika: I was meant to go to the south perhaps, marry the right man, do the right films
Pooja Bhatt was also seen in an OTT show ‘Big Girls Don’t Cry’ which she considers a main part of her comeback and she mentioned how OTT platforms are opening new options for actors. She said in another interview that there are more roles for actors of different age groups, body types, and backgrounds as OTT is exploring everything. At her time, there was only room for a hero, heroine, villain, and hero’s friend in a movie. Those are blurred lines now.
While being happy to be part of this change she explained how her character of
Rani
in ‘Bombay Begums’, which is close to her age, is brushed with different colors in the show. She credits it to the OTT medium. She is enjoying this phase of her life and feels that roles chose her.”
