Distribution of Pongal gift hamper through ration shops in Virudhunagar district would begin on January 9.
In a statement, Collector V.P. Jeyaseelan said that the Pongal gift would be given to all those holding rice ration cardholders and the families living in Sri Lankan Tamils Rehabilitation camps.
The gift hampers would contain one kg of raw rice, one kg of sugar and one full sugarcane. The token for the beneficiaries would be distributed till January 8.
Bio-metric verification of the beneficiary would be done and SMS sent to their mobile numbers while getting the gift hampers. Anyone of the family members, whose name is in the ration card can get the gift hamper.
Complaints with regarding to distribution could be raised over 04562-252680 and 04562- 252016, the statement said.
