ANI
Synopsis
BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari has accused Kolkata police of tampering with evidence after the CBI arrested Abhijit Mondal, the officer-in-charge of Tala police station. The arrest is linked to the rape and murder case of a trainee doctor. Adhikari has called for the resignation of Mamata Banerjee, citing a lack of moral authority to continue in her position.
Leader of the Opposition (LOP) in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly and BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari accused the involvement of Kolkata police in ‘tampering evidence‘ after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested the officer-in-charge of Tala police station, Abhijit Mondal.
In a post on X, Suvendu Adhikari said the arrest of Abhijit Mondal has established that the police were directly involved in tampering with evidence.
“The arrest of Abhijit Mondal; Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Tala Police Station (PS), has established that the Police were directly involved in tampering evidence and acted as a stimulant to create lacuna in order to derail the investigation into the Rape and Murder of the RG Kar PGT Lady Doctor. The procedural lapses were well orchestrated and closely monitored by the top officials of @KolkataPolice,” Suvendu Adhikari wrote on X.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Saturday arrested Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, along with Abhijit Mondal, the officer-in-charge of Tala police station, in connection with the rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata.
Adhikari also demanded the resignation of Mamata Banerjee, saying that she doesn’t have any moral authority left to continue in the position.
“@CPKolkata Vineet Goyal should be suspended immediately and Home Minister Mamata Banerjee must resign as she doesn’t have any moral authority left to continue as the head of the Home Dept,” the post further reads.
Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar said, “The arrests made today are very important. Especially the arrest of the Station In-charge of Tala Police Station… He was arrested on charges of tampering with the rape and murder case. The people of West Bengal were demanding for a long time that he be arrested… My question is, can a small Station In-charge take such a decision? He must have received instructions from above… Naturally, the people at the top should be arrested… Vineet Goyal should resign right now or else the people of West Bengal will remove the Chief Minister from his post.”
Meanwhile, junior doctors in Kolkata continue their protest for the fifth consecutive night at Swasthya Bhawan in the Salt Lake area.
