PM warns OBCs of SP-Cong’s Karnataka quota plan for UP

LUCKNOW:

PM Narendra Modi

projected

Congress-governed Karnataka

as a cautionary tale for

UP

during an impassioned outreach to backward castes in the Samajwadi Party’s stronghold of Etawah on Sunday. He warned that left to its own devices, INDIA bloc would issue an “overnight fatwa” like Congress did in Karnataka to grant OBC status to Muslims, violating the constitutional premise that there would be no reservation based on religion.
“SP and Congress want to snatch reservations from SC/ST/OBC and distribute them on the basis of religion.

What would the Yadavs, Mauryas, Kushwahas, Lodhis, Pals, etc. do if the same were to happen in UP?” Modi said, urging voters to treat it as “an alarm bell”.

The PM, canvassing for BJP candidates in Etawah, Mainpuri, and Kannauj, pointed out that Akhilesh Yadav’s SP didn’t give a ticket to any Yadav other than members of the party’s first family.
Modi said “rampant nepotism” in SP and Congress was like an “evil” that must be destroyed. “Some consider Mainpuri, Kannauj and Etawah as their fief, while others treat Amethi and Rae Bareli as theirs,” he said, contrasting it with how he and UP CM Yogi Adityanath had no familial bonds to nurture other than with the people, especially the underprivileged. “I don’t have anything behind or ahead of me. Neither does Yogi. Who are we toiling for? We toil for your children,” he said.

“The legacy created by Modi is for everyone. I want that in 2047, your son and daughter can also aspire to become PM or CM. This ‘chaiwala’ has broken the evil tradition that only heirs to royal families can become PM or CM.”
Modi said the opposition was spreading lies about BJP planning to amend the Constitution because he had repeatedly exposed their “appeasement” politics.
He said that unlike Congress’s temple run ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, “this time they are not even speaking about the (Ram) temple”.
“They turned down the invitation to the temple’s consecration. And to think Congress’s shehzada (Rahul Gandhi) once wore a janeu (sacred thread) over a coat….When Congress ridiculed my Krishna puja, ‘yaduvanshi’ SP netas stayed mum.”
