In his key address ahead of Parliament’s Winter Session, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation and urged the Opposition to participate in the discussions.
PM Modi also accused Congress and its allies of disrupting the Parliament proceedings, especially those who have been rejected by the people.
“[They] are constantly trying to control the Parliament through hooliganism by a handful of people. The people of the country count all their actions and when the time comes, they also punish them. But the most painful thing is that the new parliamentarians bring new ideas, new energy and they do not belong to any one party but to all parties,” he said.
He further said, “Some people usurp their rights and they do not even get the opportunity to speak in the House…But those who have been continuously rejected by the people 80-90 times do not allow discussions to take place in the Parliament. They neither respect the spirit of democracy nor do they understand the importance of people’s aspirations. They have no responsibility towards them, they are unable to understand them and the result is that they never live up to the expectations of the people.”
The parliament winter session kickstarts today, and the house is set to consider or introduce a number of bills in the coming days, including the Waqf Act (Amendment) Bill and banking law bills.
the Mussalman Wakf (Repeal) Bill, the Bharatiya Vayuyan Vidheyak, the Disaster Management (Amendment) Bill, the Readjustment of Representation of Scheduled Tribes in Assembly Constituencies of the State of Goa Bill, the Bills of Lading Bill, the Carriage of Goods by Sea Bill, the Railways (Amendment) Bill, the Banking Laws (Amendment) Bill, and the Oilfields (Regulation and Development) Amendment Bill, are some of the bills up introduction, consideration and passing.
Meanwhile, the BJP leader also acknowledged the celebration of 75th year of the Constitution, in the beginning of his address.
“The last phase of 2024 is underway and the country is preparing for 2025. This Session of Parliament is special in several ways and the most important thing is the beginning of the 75th year of the Constitution. Tomorrow, in the Samvidhan Sadan, everyone will celebrate the 75th year of our Constitution,” Modi said.
He also reiterated that the Parliament must send an important message to the public of India. “The public’s verdict, their needs and sentiments must be of utmost importance to us, Parliamentarians.”
“I hope this Parliamentary session helps strengthen India and its democracy and its global image,” he concluded.
