PBKS vs CSK Live: Chennai Super Kings are desperate to stop their downward trend in the Indian Premier League season 2024 on Sunday as they look to exact revenge on the Punjab Kings. Punjab Kings outplayed the reigning champions at Chepauk. The Super Kings have the task of stopping Punjab’s attempt to complete a historic double over the five-time champions at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium. PBKS thrashed CSK by seven wickets three days ago.

Out

Two in two wickets. What is happening here. Rahul Chahar removes Shivam Dube on the very first ball he faces. It is 69/3.

Out

Rahul Chahar has a wicket in his first over itself. He removes skipper Gaikwad here for 32 from 21. It is 69/2.

Gaikwad & Mitchell show urgency

So the sixth over fetches 19 runs for Chennai, and the next one gets nine runs. The score is moving up finally. It is 69/1 after 7 overs.

Slow going

Chennai still hasn’t recovered from an early loss. Mitchell has come in, but the side needs some quick runs. It is 41/1 in 5 overs.

What a start

Arshdeep comes up with a near-perfect yorker, and Rahane gets his bat down in time, only to hit it straight to Rabada. He is out for 9. It is 13/1 in 2 overs.

Rabada starts

Rabada comes up with an excellent first over for Punjab Kings and gives away only six runs. Rahane continues to struggle. It is 6/0 after 1 over.

Sam Curran says

We’re going to bowl. Day game, try and see how it plays and chase it down. We’ve got the same team. We’ve had two really good wins with the same team. Conditions should be fairly even throughout, it’s about batting, bowling and fielding well.

Playing XIs

Punjab Kings: Jonny Bairstow, Rilee Rossouw, Shashank Singh, Sam Curran(c), Jitesh Sharma(w), Ashutosh Sharma, Harpreet Brar, Harshal Patel, Rahul Chahar, Kagiso Rabada, Arshdeep Singh

Chennai Super Kings: Ajinkya Rahane, Ruturaj Gaikwad(c), Daryl Mitchell, Shivam Dube, Moeen Ali, Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni(w), Mitchell Santner, Shardul Thakur, Richard Gleeson, Tushar Deshpande

Rutu says

We’ve just stuck to our process and doing little things right. We don’t look at the track record of the opposition, we focus on ourselves and see what we can do right. This season there have been a lot of injuries, flus and forced changes so we’ve had to tinker with our team. I’d say losing 10 tosses but winning 5 games is a positive. Santner comes in place of Fizz.

Rutu loses toss again

Punjab Kings opt to bowl first, and they have the same team here.

Toss time

And there we go. We have the toss coming up for the reverse fixture here. Let’s see if CSK’s Ruturaj can break his toss jinx.

Chance to climb up the table for CSK

CSK have lost two of their last three home games as they travel to Dharamshala for matchday 53 of the IPL 2024. The team led by Ruturaj Gaikwad is ranked fifth in the IPL 2024 standings.

On the IPL 2024 points chart, CSK are two points behind Sunrisers Hyderabad, who are in fourth place. If CSK are able to stop PBKS‘s remarkable run against the Yellow Brigade, they can climb to the 4th spot courtesy of a better run rate.

With consecutive victories, Punjab Kings, CSK’s fiercest rivals, have resurrected their hopes of making the playoffs. Punjab overpowered CSK to breach Chennai fortress five times in a row, becoming the second team to do so after Mumbai Indians.
