While one is not expecting a medal in the pool from India, but a certain 14-year-old Dhinidhi Desinghu will represent the country at Paris Olympics.
It takes years and years of relentless practice to master a sport. Making it to the Olympics and representing the country is a different ball game altogether. But it seems like it’s not all that difficult for 14-year-old Indian swimmer Dhinidhi Desinghu, who would be setting the pool to fire at Paris Olympics 2024.
At an age where kids her age usually dabble in different sports, Dhinidhi is already a sensation, and also a national record holder in the women’s 200m freestyle category. And not just that, she managed to win seven gold medals at the National Games 2023, in Goa last year. All that just oozes immense talent this young Bengaluru girl has.
Who is Dhinidhi Desinghu?
Born on 17 May, 2010, Dhinidhi Desinghu is a class 9 student from Kendriya Vidyalaya, DRDO, Bengaluru. She started swimming only in 2018, and showed early signs of brilliance, as she was spotted by BM Madhu Kumar of the Dolphin Aquatics. But it must be made clear, that she only started it as a leisure activity.
She first came to limelight in 2023, where she set a national record at the at the Junior and Sub-Junior National Aquatic Championship. From there on, she went on to represent India at the World Championships in Doha, and also participated at the Asian Games. With a timing of 2:07.10s, she finished 12th.
