Instead of being nervous playing his first Test match in 20 months, Pant seemed to be enjoying each and every moment to the fullest.
Rishabh Pant is the most entertaining cricketer. It’s not the fearless batting where he reverses sweeps pacers or hits a lap sweep despite a leg slip present but rather what he does while wicketkeeper or in between balls. While batting in the India vs Bangladesh 1st Test, he was seen telling the Bangladesh captain, Najmul Hossain Shanto, where to place his fielders on Day 3.
After India eventually beat Bangladesh by a mammoth 280-run margin, Pant was asked what he was thinking when advising his opponent. “I want to ask an important question. In the second innings, when Taskin Ahmed was coming to bowl, why were you setting the field for him? Who is Bangladesh’s captain, Shanto or Pant?” Saba Karim asked Pant.
“When I talk with Ajay (Jadeja) bhai off the field, he tells me cricket should be played well wherever you play. Whether it’s the opponents or your team. So, there wasn’t any field there (at midwicket), and two fielders were standing at one spot. So I told him (Shanto) to place the fielder there.” Pant answered.
