“Going to the
gurdwara
, lighting candles there, having garam garam
kada prasad
,” are some of Hasleen Kaur’s best memories of Gurpurab. A day ahead of the auspicious day Hasleen tells us how she and her family are still aligned with the day’s rituals.
“We would decorate our home with lights and flowers on Gurpurab since childhood, and we continue doing so,” says the actress who is set to play lead opposite Barun Sobti in an upcoming web show, Ikatthe. She adds, “My mom makes kada prashad early morning and we all wear new clothes. In the evening, we go to the gurdwara and then come back to eat lots of sweets and dinner together as a family.”
Among the other preparations special to the day, Hasleen says kada prasad is her all-time favourite. “If the season is right to fetch saag then mom makes
makki ki roti
with it too,” she smiles.
Maintaining the sanctity of tradition on Gurpurab, the
Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar
and CAT actress says, “Coming back home to light
diyas
at home and mom sprinkling
Amrit
got from gurdwara all over the house with coins, is still observed at home.”
Religion apart, visiting the gurdwara often is part of her lifestyle. “It gives me peace and happiness. Whenever I’ve achieved something or felt low, remembering god or saying a few verses in prayers has always held me together,” says Hasleen.
