Petitions submitted to the District Collectors to exempt their villages from merging with the corporations and municipalities would be considered and reviewed, said Minister for Municipal Administration K.N. Nehru.
He chaired a meeting with the elected representatives from Madurai, Dindigul, Theni, Karur, Ramanathapuram, Sivaganga, Virudhunagar, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Tenkasi and Kanniyakumari to review the ongoing projects.
Mr. Nehru said objections to merge panchayats with the corporations could be made within 120 days with the respective Collectors.
“During the review, if objections are found reasonable, action would be taken to reverse the order,” he added.
Speaking about other civil works, he said that road-laying works in many districts would be carried out.
“As 5 lakh LED lamps were already installed, 1.5 lakh new LED lamps were installed recently,” he added.
Though the State has 100 knowledge centres in various districts, based on necessity and requests, new knowledge centres would be opened, Mr. Nehru said.
He pointed out that “unlike previous times, works to implement water projects should be taken seriously and done quickly.”
Thoothukudi MP K. Kanimozhi, while speaking at the event, said, “Action should be taken to resolve water crisis in the district. As summer season is nearing, a speedy investigation is required to ensure the water need of the residents and implementation.”
Speaking about the basic requirements needed in the Tiruchendur temple, she said, the temple lacked proper infrastructure like drinking water supply, road facility and others.
As the temple is one of the important religious locations in the State, scores of devotees visit the temple on all days of the month.
“Hence, to meet the water needs of devotees, drinking water should be supplied to the temple,” she added.
As the work on drinking water supply under Jal Jeevan mission was going slowly, action should be taken to speed up the work, she added.
Revenue Minister K.K.S.S.R. Ramachandran, Minister for Commercial Taxes and Registration P. Moorthy, Minister for Electricity, Prohibition and Excise V.
