Arshdeep Singh is India’s second highest wicket taker in T20Is
The stage is set for the ICC Champions Trophy which takes place in a little over a month. And before the mega ICC event, the India Cricket Team will get some practice time as they take on England for a 5-match T20I series and a 3-match ODI series. And the IND vs ENG series can be a golden chance for Arshdeep Singh to cement his spot in the India squad for the Champions Trophy.
So far Arshdeep Singh is not a regular in the 50-over format of the game. He has played 8 matches so far picking up 12 wickets in the process. On the other hand, he is a regular in the shortest format of the game. Despite the injury to Jasprit Bumrah, the BCCI think tank will be keen on having the Best Playing XI for the tournament.
And that means, India will try their best to feature the deadly trio of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, and Mohammed Siraj in the Playing XI. But a lot of dynamics are at play. Bumrah’s injury, Shami’s fitness concerns, and Siraj’s inconsistency. And this can be a perfect opportunity for Arshdeep Singh to perform well and secure his spot in the ICC event.
When it comes to T20Is, Arshdeep boasts of having 95 wickets to his name. And he is India’s second-highest wicket-taker in the shortest format, 1 shy of Yuzvendra Chahal. Given the limited opportunities he has got in the 50-over format, cats a huge doubt about his place in the team.
Currently, Arshdeep has been playing very well in domestic cricket. He is the second-highest wicket-taker with 17 scalps to his name from 6 games. The young pacer will be keen to continue his red-hot form when the IND vs ENG series starts. While it is expected that quite a few seniors might be rested for the series, it is now or never for Arshdeep to shine.
A good performance in domestic cricket, backed up by a good performance in the India vs England series will greatly raise his stocks. And on the offset, if Bumrah fails to make it to the ICC event, Arshdeep will be a sure starter for the Men in Blue.
