NEW DELHI: Dismissing reports that
food
regulator
FSSAI
allows high levels of pesticide residues in
spices
and herbs, govt on Sunday reiterated that India has one of the most stringent norms for residues in food items.
This comes amid a ban imposed by Hong Kong‘s food regulator on certain spice mixes of two leading Indian brands on alleged presence of pesticide ethylene oxide in their samples.
FSSAI is currently collecting samples of branded spices sold within the country to ensure they comply with its quality specifications. It does not regulate the quality of exported spices.
