It seems like the the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had to provide their decision on the rule for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2025. However, they have put their decision on hold, a likely prospect that this ‘Impact sub’ rule might not be in for next year’s Indian Premier League (IPL) as well.

Impact Player rule!
The Impact Player rule has significantly alter the dynamics of T20 cricket in India. It allows teams to substitute a player during the match, potentially providing more strategic options and increasing the importance of bench strength. However, it also raises concerns about the traditional aspects of the game, particularly the value placed on all-round skills.
The BCCI’s cautious approach in implementing this rule reflects the significance of the decision. By postponing the announcement, the board is likely taking time to consider all aspects and potential consequences of the rule change. Many players have shown their discontent over the rule and the matter was also discussed in the recent BCCI & IPL owners meeting.
