CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad led from the front with a superb 98, while Daryl Mitchell’s maiden fifty of the season and a late cameo from Shivam Dube propelled the CSK total past 200.
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) captain Pat Cummins took full responsibility for his team’s crushing defeat to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. Despite a strong bowling line-up, SRH were unable to contain a dominant CSK batting display, ultimately falling short by a massive 78 runs.
CSK outclass SRH in IPL 2024
CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad led from the front with a superb 98, while Daryl Mitchell’s maiden fifty of the season and a late cameo from Shivam Dube propelled the CSK total past 200.
The bowling attack then delivered a collective effort, with Tushar Deshpande taking four crucial wickets at the start of the SRH chase. Excellent contributions from Wanindu Hasaranga, Maheesh Pathirana, and Mustafizur Rahman ensured a comprehensive victory for CSK.
Pat Cummins admits shortcomings
Speaking at the post-match press conference, Pat Cummins acknowledged SRH’s shortcomings. “Nothing really went to plan tonight,” he stated frankly. He highlighted their struggles in chasing targets, a recurring issue for the team this season. “Fells like a pretty good chase unit but really hasn’t come off. Need to work on that,” he added.
Dew a Non-Factor vs CSK
Cummins downplayed the potential impact of dew, a factor that can favor teams batting second. “There was a lot of dew here… but it didn’t count as much because they bowled well and that factor really didn’t come into the play,” he explained.

Aggressive Batting Strategy: SRH’s Path to Victory
Despite the setback, Pat Cummins remains confident in SRH’s approach. “T20 always benefits batters than bowlers,” he observed, acknowledging the current trend of high-scoring matches. “There are more 200 plus scores, than 120s. It has gone to a whole new level this season.”
Pat Cummins emphasized SRH’s commitment to an aggressive batting strategy. “The way we set up that’s our best chance as we have got some really aggressive batters. That’s our best bid to win this tournament,” he declared. SRH will be looking to implement this approach more effectively in their upcoming matches, hoping to turn the tide and climb the IPL 2024 standings.
